Jerusalem and the Last Gentiles

The Great Disappointment and the Opening of the Judgment

Revelation 10:10 ended with the great disappointment of 1844, when many believers expected Christ’s Second Advent and anticipated that His coming meant the earthly sanctuary. After the disappointment, they realized the prophecy referred instead to Christ entering the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary with the Father, where the investigative judgment commenced (Daniel 7:9-14).

“At the time appointed for the Judgment—the close of the 2300 days, in 1844—began the work of investigation and blotting out of sins. All who have ever taken upon themselves the name of Christ must pass its searching scrutiny. Both the living and the dead are to be judged ‘out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.’” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 486.1.

The hope of the faithful was revived again with the messages announcing the investigative judgment of the righteous dead and the righteous living (Rev. 14:6-20).

Prophesy Again — The Judgment Continues

Rev. 10:11 “Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.” The investigative judgment did not end in Revelation 10 but continues into chapter 11, as it concerns both the dead and the living.

“Revelation 11:1 (ch. 20:12, 13; 1 Peter 4:17; 2 Peter 1:10, 11). Measuring the Church of God. —The grand judgment is taking place, and has been going on for some time. Now the Lord says, Measure the temple and the worshipers thereof. … Here is the work going on, measuring the temple and its worshipers to see who will stand in the last day. Those who stand fast shall have an abundant entrance into the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Ellen G. White, Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, Vol. 7, p. 972.1, 2.

Revelation 11: 1 says, “And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.”

The measuring of the “temple” and “altar,” which are two inanimate (lifeless) objects, represents the investigative judgment of the dead, but “them that worship therein” represents those under the investigative judgment of the living.

“In 1844, our great High Priest entered the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary, to begin the work of the investigative judgment. The cases of the righteous dead have been passing in review before God. When that work shall be completed, judgment is to be pronounced upon the living. How precious, how important are these solemn moments! Each of us has a case pending in the court of heaven. We are individually to be judged according to the deeds done in the body. In the typical service, when the work of atonement was performed by the high priest in the most holy place of the earthly sanctuary, the people were required to afflict their souls before God, and confess their sins, that they might be atoned for and blotted out. Will any less be required of us in this antitypical day of atonement, when Christ in the sanctuary above is pleading in behalf of His people, and the final, irrevocable decision is to be pronounced upon every case?” Selected Messages, Book 1, p. 125.1.

Prophecy is about to be fulfilled, where the judgment of the dead closes, and the judgment proceeds on with the living, which begins with the first fruits, the 144,000 (Rev. 14:1-5), and it continues on to the great multitude of Rev. 7:9; 14:18—the gathering of the “clusters of the vine of the earth” (See also Rev. 18:4; Isa. 66:20).

The Bible says, “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” 1 Peter 4:17.

The Two Classes of the Righteous Dead

The “temple,” being the largest inanimate structure, represents the vast body of the faithful dead from Adam and Eve up to 1844. By contrast, the “altar” applies explicitly to a smaller, specific class— “all who have died in faith under the third angel’s message” (The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 637.1).

Because the “altar” is the smallest inanimate object located in the Holy Place, it represents the smaller class of believers who died in the faith, those laid to rest since 1844, when Christ passed into the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary.

In other words, all who died from 1844 until the judgment of the righteous dead ends are represented by the “altar,” because they accepted and believed in the sanctuary truths. The judgment of the dead ends at the deliverances of the 144,000 (Dan. 12:1), which marks the beginning of the judgment of the living, the commencement of the harvest (Matt. 13:30).

The living are “them that worship therein”; they kept pace with the light and were found worthy to be one of the 144,000 (Rev. 14:1-5).

The Altar of Incense and the Heavenly Sanctuary

The altar of incense, on which the High Priest burnt sweet incense, also referred to as the golden altar, is located in the Holy Place, directly in front of the veil of the Most Holy (Exodus 30:6, 7).

Revelation chapter 4 describes the judgment scene of verses 1, 2, 4-6: “(1) After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will show thee things which must be hereafter. (2) And immediately I was in the spirit; and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. (4) And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. (5) And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. (6) And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.”

John the Revelator was given a vivid description of the heavenly sanctuary, and Inspiration confirms what John saw in vision. “As in vision the apostle John was granted a view of the temple of God in heaven, he beheld there ‘seven lamps of fire burning before the throne.’ He saw an angel ‘having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.’ Revelation 4:5; 8:3. Here the prophet was permitted to behold the first apartment of the sanctuary in heaven; and he saw there the ‘seven lamps of fire’ and the ‘golden altar’ represented by the golden candlestick and the altar of incense in the sanctuary on earth. Again, ‘the temple of God was opened’ (Revelation 11:19), and he looked within the inner veil, upon the holy of holies. Here he beheld ‘the ark of His testament’ (Revelation 11:19), represented by the sacred chest constructed by Moses to contain the law of God.” Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 356.1.

Inspiration further says, “I saw the Father rise from the throne, [see E.W., 92] and in a flaming chariot go into the holy of holies within the veil, and sit down. Then Jesus rose up from the throne, and the most of those who were bowed down arose with Him. I did not see one ray of light pass from Jesus to the careless multitude after He arose, and they were left in perfect darkness. Those who arose when Jesus did, kept their eyes fixed on Him as He left the throne and led them out a little way. Then He raised His right arm, and we heard His lovely voice saying, ‘Wait here; I am going to My Father to receive the kingdom; keep your garments spotless, and in a little while I will return from the wedding and receive you to Myself.’ Then a cloudy chariot, with wheels like flaming fire, surrounded by angels, came to where Jesus was. He stepped into the chariot and was borne to the holiest, where the Father sat [See Isa. 6:1-7]. There I beheld Jesus, a great High Priest, standing before the Father. On the hem of His garment was a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate. Those who rose up with Jesus would send up their faith to Him in the holiest, and pray, ‘My Father, give us Thy Spirit.’ Then Jesus would breathe upon them the Holy Ghost. In that breath was light, power, and much love, joy, and peace. (par. 1) I turned to look at the company who were still bowed before the throne; they did not know that Jesus had left it. Satan appeared to be by the throne, trying to carry on the work of God. I saw them look up to the throne, and pray, ‘Father, give us Thy Spirit.’ Satan would then breathe upon them an unholy influence; in it there was light and much power, but no sweet love, joy, and peace. Satan’s object was to keep them deceived and to draw back and deceive God’s children.” Early Writings, pp. 55, 56.

The truth still holds today: only those who have their eyes single to Jesus and follow him will be among the 144,000, the first fruits of the living who keep the sanctuary truths. They will have the privilege of heralding the invitation to the world about the kingdom of God (Matt. 24:14) and gather the great multitude out of antitypical Babylon (Rev. 18:4).

As the judgment transitions from the dead to the living, Inspiration turns our attention from the heavenly sanctuary to the final crisis in Jerusalem, where the signs Christ gave in Luke 21 mark the beginning of that solemn work.

What is the sign that God has given to the faithful today of when the judgment ends for the righteous dead and the judgment of the living commences?

The Last Gentile Treading and the 42 Months

“And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. (21) Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. (22) For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. (23) But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. (24) And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” Luke 21:20-24.

Many understand this prophecy applied to the destruction of the Jewish temple in 70 A.D., when the Roman general Titus led the siege and brought Jerusalem to ruin.

The question is, have the last Gentiles trodden down Jerusalem?

“But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.” Rev. 11:2.

Historically, the 1260 days (prophetic years) mark the period during the Dark Ages when the Papacy rose to supremacy, and the literal 42 months identify the period during the French Revolution when France openly rejected the Bible.

“The periods here mentioned—‘forty and two months,’ and ‘a thousand two hundred and threescore days’—are the same, alike representing the time in which the church of Christ was to suffer oppression from Rome.” Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 266.3.

In both historical applications—whether the 1260 prophetic years or the 42 literal months—the church endured persecution and the truth was trampled underfoot.

The Rejection of Truth and the Blending of Prophecy

The two periods of time are the prophetic 1260 days and the literal 42 months, yet Revelation 11:2 has more than two applications.

  1. The Papacy’s 1260 prophetic years —The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., pp. 54.2, 266.1-3.
  2. France’s rejection of the Bible for 42 literal months—The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., pp. 269.3, 286.1—287.1.

Prophecy shows a third, final application of the 42 months.

“Christ’s words had been spoken in the hearing of a large number of people; but when He was alone, Peter, John, James, and Andrew came to Him as He sat upon the Mount of Olives. ‘Tell us,’ they said, ‘when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the end of the world?’ Jesus did not answer His disciples by taking up separately the destruction of Jerusalem and the great day of His coming. He mingled the description of these two events. Had He opened to His disciples future events as He beheld them, they would have been unable to endure the sight. In mercy to them He blended the description of the two great crises, leaving the disciples to study out the meaning for themselves. When He referred to the destruction of Jerusalem, His prophetic words reached beyond that event to the final conflagration in that day when the Lord shall rise out of His place to punish the world for their iniquity, when the earth shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. This entire discourse was given, not for the disciples only, but for those who should live in the last scenes of this earth’s history.” The Desire of Ages, p. 628.1.

1. Inspiration plainly states that Jesus blended two events into one prophecy.

  • The destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.
  • The final destruction of the world at the Second Coming (end of time).
  • His words “reached beyond that event” to the end‑time destruction of Jerusalem that precedes the Second Coming.
  • What that means is that the Olivet discourse is twofold:
    • Type: A.D. 70, destruction of Jerusalem by the Roman Army
    • Antitype: End‑time destruction of Jerusalem by the war of Zech. 14, before the Second Coming

That is foundational!

2. Zechariah 14 describes the end‑time version of that crisis; it is not about A.D. 70.

It describes:

  • All nations gathered against Jerusalem (v. 2).
  • A supernatural deliverance (not Roman conquest).
  • The Lord Himself standing on the Mount of Olives (v. 4).

Two applications of splitting the Mount of Olivet:

  • Premillennial, removing the obstacles in Jerusalem by the war, figuratively splitting the Mount, clearing out the land.
  • Postmillennial, Christ literally splits the Mount after the millennium to place the New Jerusalem there. (See The Great Controversy, pp. 662.3 – 663.0).

3. Jesus intentionally merged these two prophecies; He “did not answer His disciples by taking up separately the destruction of Jerusalem and the great day of His coming,” because the destruction of Jerusalem has two fulfillments.

Matthew 24 blends both events:

  • Local application (Roman armies, A.D. 70).
  • Global, end‑time application (great tribulation, signs, Second Coming).

4. Revelation 11 and Luke 21 confirm a final Jerusalem crisis before Christ returns.

Revelation 11:2:

  • Jerusalem, “the holy city,” is trodden underfoot by Gentiles—peacekeeping troops occupy.
  • The 42 months are a divinely appointed period of time.
  • Rev. 11:2 matches Luke 21:24 — “until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”

Luke 21:20–24:

  • Jerusalem surrounded by armies
  • Desolation approaching
  • The prophecy extends beyond A.D. 70 to the end of time, the last Gentile’s domination of Jerusalem.

5. When the “times of the Gentiles” end, Zechariah 14 is fulfilled, as far as the removal of the Gentiles.

This is the prophetic sequence:

  • All nations gather against Jerusalem (Zech. 14:2)
  • The Lord intervenes, causing the Gentiles to fall (Zech. 14:3–5)
  • The Mount of Olives “splits” figuratively when Christ removes the obstacles in Jerusalem through the war of Zechariah 14. This is the premillennial application, in which the land is cleared, and the way is opened for His work with the 144,000.
  • The 144,000 and all the saints (great multitude—Rev.7:9) come to Jerusalem after the war (Zech. 14:5)
  • The kingdoms of the world become the kingdom of our Lord (Zech. 14:9; Rev. 11:15; Dan. 2:44, 45, 35)
  • Gentile domination of Jerusalem ends (Luke 21:24; Rev. 11:2, 7)

6. The Second Coming is tied to a final destruction/cleansing of Jerusalem before His appearing, not because Jerusalem is the center of salvation, but because prophecy predicts it:

  • A final Gentile treading
  • A final gathering of nations
  • A final divine intervention
  • A final deliverance
  • A final establishment of Christ’s kingdom, premillennial, to gather all saints, before the Second Coming

That is exactly what Zechariah 14 describes and exactly what The Desire Ages (p. 628) says Jesus pointed to.

When the great multitude are brought into the kingdom (Micah 4:1–2), the borders expand according to Isaiah 54:1–3, to accommodate the incoming forces of the Gentiles (Isaiah 60:5, 11), the kingdom enlarges until it fills the whole earth (Daniel 2:35). God says call “my people out of Babylon,” and since they are called out, God provides a refuge—a place of safety for His people. (Rev. 18:4; Zech. 2:5-8; Isa. 4:5, 6; Ezek. 36:35-38). And as this kingdom message goes forth—“this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (Matthew 24:14)—the prophetic sequence reaches its completion.

This entire prophetic sequence converges in Revelation 11, making it the central warning for the last generation.

Why is Revelation 11 so important to know?

Jesus always sends warnings before destruction. This is why He gave a specific sign connected to His coming and “the end of the world”: “What shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Matt. 24:3, and “When ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.” Matt. 24:33.

The 42 Months Begin in the Fall and End in the Spring

According to prophecy, the sign is that the Gentiles—represented today by the United States (U.S.) and the United Nations (U.N.)—will place peacekeeping troops in Jerusalem to maintain peace in the city for 42 months (Rev. 11:2), aligning with Zechariah 14:2, which says “all nations” will be gathered there.

It is a Fall event because the 42-month period begins in the Fall. The exact year is not revealed, but the season is.

One thing is certain: “The Gentiles shall tread the holy city” (Rev. 11:2).

Again, why is this important?

Because the 42 months (Rev. 11:2) mark the final stretch (last mile) before the purification of the Seventh‑day Adventist denomination.

  • The 42 months begin in the Fall.
  • Ends 1260 days later in the Spring.

At the end of that period— “when they shall have finished their testimony” (Rev. 11:7). The beast comes out of the bottomless pit and kills the two witnesses, scraps the Constitution, and the sealing of the 144,000 is finished. Ezekiel 9 takes place, removing the tares from the denomination.

If the Gentiles tread the holy city (Rev. 11:2) in the Fall, then the 42 months end in the Spring, aligning with the Lord’s Passover (Lev. 23:5). This places the corresponding Spring date around April 3rd, when the Passover begins at “even.” As sundown transitions into the next biblical day, the date becomes April 4th—the start of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, a seven‑day period (Lev. 23:6).

This seven‑day period correlates with the half‑hour silence of Revelation 8:1, also representing seven days, during which:

  • The church is purified by the angels of Ezekiel 9.
  • At the same time, the Gentile powers (United States and United Nations) are crushed in Jerusalem, as described in Zechariah 14:3–5 and Zechariah 1:21.

Since Passover opens the seven days of Unleavened Bread, Inspiration uses this same seven‑day structure to symbolize the half‑hour silence of Revelation 8:1.

Zechariah asked the angel about the carpenters and what they came to do.

“Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.” Zechariah 1:21.

In other words, “to fray” and “to cast out” are “to terrify” and “to defeat (overthrow) them.”

When peacekeeping troops are placed in Jerusalem, Christ intervenes on behalf of the faithful by giving a special manifestation of His power to those walking in the advancing light to complete the closing work for the church and bring the sealing of the 144,000 to a close.

The Special Manifestation of the Holy Spirit

“And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth” Rev. 11:3.

In the type, Jesus breathed on the disciples before He was crucified to finish the closing work for the 120. Subsequently, in the antitype, Jesus will do the same for those who have kept pace with the light, so that the sealing of the 144,000 comes to a close before the 4 winds are let loose (Rev. 7:1-4) and Jacob’s Time of Trouble commences.

Just before we entered it [the time of trouble], we all received the seal of the living God. Then I saw the four angels cease to hold the four winds. And I saw famine, pestilence and sword, nation rose against nation, and the whole world was in confusion (Day-Star, March 14, 1846).” Ellen G. White, S.D.A Bible Commentary, Vol. 7, p. 968.11. (See Dan. 12:1)

The sealing can only be completed under the power and direction of the Spirit of God; there is no other way!

“‘And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whosesoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosesoever sins ye retain, they are retained.’ The Holy Spirit was not yet fully manifested; for Christ had not yet been glorified. The more abundant impartation of the Spirit did not take place till after Christ’s ascension. Not until this was received could the disciples fulfill the commission to preach the gospel to the world. But the Spirit was now given for a special purpose. Before the disciples could fulfill their official duties in connection with the church, Christ breathed His Spirit upon them. He was committing to them a most sacred trust, and He desired to impress them with the fact that without the Holy Spirit this work could not be accomplished.” The Desire of Ages, p. 805.2.

Before the disciples could receive the “more abundant impartation of the Spirit” at Pentecost, their first work was to minister to the church and see the sealing of the 120 brought to its close (Acts 2:1–3). Their experience is the type pointing forward to the sealing of the 144,000 in our day.

Matthew 10:1-8 gives an account of this special manifestation of God’s power to finish the closing work for the church, both in their day and ours. “But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (v. 6).

This special manifestation of the Spirit works in harmony with the testimony of Scripture itself, represented in Revelation 11 as the two witnesses.

“The great issue so near at hand will weed out (Ezek. 9) those whom God has not appointed, and he will have a pure, true, sanctified ministry prepared for the latter rain…. (par. 3) A new life is proceeding from satanic agencies to work with a power we have not hitherto realized. And shall not a new power from above take possession of God’s people? —Letter 55, 1886. (par. 4)” Selected Messages, Book 3, p. 385.

Thus, God finishes the closing work for the church by the special manifestation of the Holy Spirit during the last period, the 42 months—the last mile home.

The time has come for a thorough reformation to take place. When this reformation begins, the spirit of prayer will actuate every believer and will banish from the church the spirit of discord and strife. Those who have not been living in Christian fellowship will draw close to one another. One member working in right lines will lead other members to unite with him in making intercession for the revelation of the Holy Spirit. There will be no confusion, because all will be in harmony with the mind of the Spirit. The barriers separating believer from believer will be broken down, and God’s servants will speak the same things. The Lord will co-operate with His servants. All will pray understandingly the prayer that Christ taught His servants: ‘Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.’ Matthew 6:10.” Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 8, p. 251.1.

“In visions of the night, representations passed before me of a great reformatory movement among God’s people. Many were praising God. The sick were healed, and other miracles were wrought. A spirit of intercession was seen, even as was manifested before the great Day of Pentecost. Hundreds and thousands were seen visiting families and opening before them the word of God. Hearts were convicted by the power of the Holy Spirit, and a spirit of genuine conversion was manifest. On every side doors were thrown open to the proclamation of the truth. The world seemed to be lightened with the heavenly influence. Great blessings were received by the true and humble people of God. I heard voices of thanksgiving and praise, and there seemed to be a reformation such as we witnessed in 1844.” Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 9, p. 126.1.

A revival and a reformation must take place, under the ministration of the Holy Spirit. Revival and reformation are two different things. Revival signifies a renewal of spiritual life, a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from spiritual death. Reformation signifies a reorganization, a change in ideas and theories, habits and practices. Reformation will not bring forth the good fruit of righteousness unless it is connected with the revival of the Spirit. Revival and reformation are to do their appointed work, and in doing this work, they must blend. —The Review and Herald, February 25, 1902, par. 8.” Selected Message. Book 1, p. 128.1.

It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that the sealing work of the 144,000 is brought to its close. Through the Spirit, the two witnesses (Old and New Testaments), and the sanctified believers who have fully surrendered to Christ are united in a threefold testimony. In this union, Christ completes the closing work for the church, finishing the sealing of the 144,000 before they are given full Pentecostal power (Joel 2:28, 29) to proclaim the Loud Cry throughout the world to gather the great multitude out of antitypical Babylon (Rev. 18:4).

The Two Witnesses— Old and New Testaments

“These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.” Rev. 11:4.

“Concerning the two witnesses the prophet declares further: ‘These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.’ ‘Thy word,’ said the psalmist, ‘is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.’ Revelation 11:4; Psalm 119:105. The two witnesses represent the Scriptures of the Old and the New Testament. Both are important testimonies to the origin and perpetuity of the law of God. Both are witnesses also to the plan of salvation. The types, sacrifices, and prophecies of the Old Testament point forward to a Saviour to come. The Gospels and Epistles of the New Testament tell of a Saviour who has come in the exact manner foretold by type and prophecy.” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 267.1.

Verses five and six further explain the gift and power of the Holy Spirit during the 42 months.

“(5) And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. (6) These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.” Rev. 11:5, 6. (Read Matt. 10:1-8, 19, 20)

The 42 Months End— The Beast from the Bottomless Pit

Verse seven marks the close of the 42 months— “And when they shall have finished their testimony…”

“Finished their testimony” means the warning message has been fully given to antitypical Assyria and the Seventh‑day Adventist denomination. At that point, Jesus has the angels of Ezekiel 9 remove the tares while at the same time, antitypical Nineveh and Assyria—the United States and the United Nations—are crushed in Jerusalem, fulfilling Zechariah 14:1–5.

Who is the beast that rises from the bottomless pit?

“The beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.” “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt…” (Rev. 11:7–8).

The beast kills the two witnesses in the sense that truth as it is in Christ is momentarily silenced. The “great city” is spiritually called Sodom (moral corruption) and Egypt (open rebellion), and it is also the place “where our Lord was crucified” — symbolically representing a system that rejects Christ and His Word.

1. “When they shall have finished their testimony” (Rev. 11:3–6)

  • The two witnesses represent the Old and New Testaments.
  • The world reaches a point where it refuses their testimony.
  • Human powers attempt to silence or suppress Scripture.
  • “Finished their testimony” marks the closing work for the 144,000 — the first fruits — and the final warning to antitypical Nineveh and Assyria before their defeat in Jerusalem.
  • The harvest commences (Matt. 13:30).

Their “testimony” refers to their prophetic witness — the period during which Scripture speaks with authority, exposes sin, and calls for repentance. “Finished” does not mean the Bible ceases to exist; it means its warning phase closes.

2. “The beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit”

This beast is a system that rejects the truth as it is in Christ and is moved by satanic influence. The Greek word abyssos (“bottomless pit”) means:

  • the realm of chaos
  • rebellion
  • darkness
  • and satanic influence

Historically and prophetically, this represents:

  • A movement opposing Scripture.
  • A power energized by satanic darkness.
  • A system that openly wars against the Bible.
  • In the past, the Papacy and France played major roles in influencing the world to deny Christ.
  • In the end-time, the two‑horned beast (United States) speaks as a dragon and forms the image of the beast system.

3. “Shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them”

In symbolic language, the beast does not literally kill two people, but denies the truth as it is in Christ.

Instead:

  • It attacks the authority of Scripture.
  • It silences the testimony of the Word.
  • It tramples the Law of God.
  • It declares the Bible’s truth dead, irrelevant, or forbidden.

Revelation 11:7 contains an end‑time application: When nations again reject Scripture and temporarily suppress its testimony, the “beast” is making war on the two witnesses.

The Beast that Spake as a Dragon

“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. (12) And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.” Rev. 13:11, 12.

Inspiration expounds on the symbolism of these verses:

“The lamb-like horns and dragon voice of the symbol point to a striking contradiction between the professions and the practice of the nation thus represented. The ‘speaking’ of the nation is the action of its legislative and judicial authorities. By such action it will give the lie to those liberal and peaceful principles which it has put forth as the foundation of its policy. The prediction that it will speak ‘as a dragon,’ and exercise ‘all the power of the first beast,’ plainly foretells a development of the spirit of intolerance and persecution that was manifested by the nations represented by the dragon and the leopard-like beast. And the statement that the beast with two horns ‘causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast,’ indicates that the authority of this nation is to be exercised in enforcing some observance which shall be an act of homage to the papacy. (par. 1) Such action would be directly contrary to the principles of this government, to the genius of its free institutions, to the direct and solemn avowals of the Declaration of Independence, and to the Constitution. The founders of the nation wisely sought to guard against the employment of secular power on the part of the church, with its inevitable result—intolerance and persecution. The Constitution provides that ‘Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ and that ‘no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office of public trust under the United States.’ Only in flagrant violation of these safeguards to the nation’s liberty, can any religious observance be enforced by civil authority. But the inconsistency of such action is no greater than is represented in the symbol. It is the beast with lamb-like horns—in profession pure, gentle, and harmless—that speaks as a dragon. (par. 2)” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 442.

Thus, when the United States speaks as a dragon, it:

  • Passes the National Sunday Law
  • Repudiates the Constitution
  • Creates the National Alliance (first phase of the image of the beast)

This is civil power — the state.

The pen of Inspiration continues to testify,

“Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul, and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of Spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of Spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience.” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 588.1.

These errors unite:

  • Apostate Protestantism
  • Papacy
  • Spiritualism

Forming the “threefold union.”

Three prominent questions stand out:

1. What does the two-horned beast do?

“He spake as a dragon,” which plainly states that the United States uses its legislative and judicial authorities to pass a National Sunday law; it speaks as a dragon; it creates a National Alliance.

And Rev. 11:7 says “the beast that comes out of the bottomless pit kills the two witnesses.”

In other words, it rejects truth as it is in Christ. Therefore, it crucifies our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ afresh by supporting a National Sunday Law—discarding God’s law, the silencing of the two witnesses (the Old and New Testaments).

As a result:

“… their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.” Rev. 11:8.

Sodom and Egypt refer to astate of pervasive wickedness, especially arrogant rebellion against God in the world.

Together, they describe the beast’s domain that has become spiritually:

  • Egypt—worldly, defiant of God’s authority.
  • Sodom—wicked and rebellious.
  • Hostile against God’s witnesses.
  • Their rebellion against the truth confirms our Savior crucified afresh, “where also our Lord was crucified.”

This spiritual condition sets the stage for the prophetic timing in Revelation 11, where the two 3½‑day periods symbolize the purification work.

2. What “threefold union” is Inspiration referring to?

It is the confederacy of religious bodies.

“Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.” Isaiah 8:12.

Scripture identifies this confederacy as the threefold union of Apostate Protestantism, the Papacy, and Spiritualism—symbolized as the “three unclean spirits like frogs.”

“And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. (14) For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.” Revelation 16:13–14.

“Satan has long been preparing for his final effort to deceive the world. The foundation of his work was laid by the assurance given to Eve in Eden, ‘Ye shall not surely die.’ ‘In the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.’ [Genesis 3:4, 5.] Little by little he has prepared the way for his master-piece of deception in the development of Spiritualism. He has not yet reached the full accomplishment of his designs; but it will be reached in the last remnant of time. Says the prophet: ‘I saw three unclean spirits like frogs; … they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.’ [Revelation 16:13, 14.] Except those who are kept by the power of God, through faith in his Word, the whole world will be swept into the ranks of this delusion. The people are fast being lulled to a fatal security, to be awakened only by the outpouring of the wrath of God.” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 561.2.

 3. When does the confederacy of religious bodies take place?

The “speaking” by the “two-horned beast” and the “beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit” that “kill the two witnesses” describe the same prophetic event from two angles.

It is the moment when:

  • The sealing of the 144,000 is complete
  • The Constitution is repudiated
  • The confederacy of religious bodies unites to support a National Sunday Law
  • The woman sits on the heads (Rev. 17:9)
  • The nation fully aligns itself against God’s commandments

Revelation 7:1–4 shows the winds are held until the sealing is finished.

National Apostasy leads to National Ruin

“Our land is in jeopardy. The time is drawing on when its legislators shall so abjure the principles of Protestantism as to give countenance to Romish apostasy. The people for whom God has so marvelously wrought, strengthening them to throw off the galling yoke of popery, will by a national act give vigor to the corrupt faith of Rome, and thus arouse the tyranny which only waits for a touch to start again into cruelty and despotism. With rapid steps are we already approaching this period. When Protestant churches shall seek the support of the secular power, thus following the example of that apostate church, for opposing which their ancestors endured the fiercest persecution, then will there be a national apostasy which will end only in national ruin (par. 2),” The Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 4, p. 410.

There are many, even of those engaged in this movement for Sunday enforcement, who are blinded to the results which will follow this action. They do not see that they are striking directly against religious liberty. There are many who have never understood the claims of the Bible Sabbath and the false foundation upon which the Sunday institution rests. Any movement in favor of religious legislation is really an act of concession to the papacy, which for so many ages has steadily warred against liberty of conscience. Sunday observance owes its existence as a so-called Christian institution to ‘the mystery of iniquity;’ and its enforcement will be a virtual recognition of the principles which are the very cornerstone of Romanism. When our nation shall so abjure the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery; it will be nothing else than giving life to the tyranny which has long been eagerly watching its opportunity to spring again into active despotism.” Testimonies for the Church, Vol 5, p. 711.4.

A great crisis awaits the people of God. A great crisis awaits the world. The most momentous struggle of all the ages is before us. Events which for more than half a century we have, upon the authority of the prophetic Word, declared to be impending, are now taking place before our eyes. An amendment to the Constitution restricting liberty of conscience, has long been urged upon the legislators of the nation; and the question of enforcing Sunday observance has become one of national importance. Are we ready for the issue involved in the Sunday movement? (par. 1).” The Signs of the Times, November 28, 1900.

“When the land which the Lord provided as an asylum for His people, that they might worship Him according to the dictates of their own consciences, the land over which for long years the shield of Omnipotence has been spread, the land which God has favored by making it the depository of the pure religion of Christ—when that land shall, through its legislators, abjure the principles of Protestantism, and give countenance to Romish apostasy in tampering with God’s law—it is then that the final work of the man of sin will be revealed. Protestants will throw their whole influence and strength on the side of the Papacy; by a national act enforcing the false sabbath, they will give life and vigor to the corrupt faith of Rome, reviving her tyranny and oppression of conscience. Then it will be time for God to work in mighty power for the vindication of His truth (par. 3).” Maranatha, p. 179.

The rejection of God’s true Sabbath and the enactment of a Sunday Law temporarily silence Scripture. The United States publicly rejects Christ and makes void the Law of God. Thus, “their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city” (Rev. 11:8).

“As the approach of the Roman armies was a sign to the disciples of the impending destruction of Jerusalem, so may this apostasy (“decree enforcing the institution of the papacy”—5T, p. 451.1) be a sign to us that the limit of God’s forbearance is reached, that the measure of our nation’s iniquity is full, and that the angel of mercy is about to take her flight, never to return….” Testimonies for the Church, Vol 5, p. 451.2.

Inspiration states that “when our nation shall so abjure the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery.” When the United States denies the principles of the Constitution—repudiating (rejecting) them—the religious bodies fully unite under a “threefold union.” At this stage, the woman sits on the heads (Rev. 17:9). In other words, they scrap the Constitution, the religious bodies confederate, and this marks the close of the sealing of the 144,000 — the first fruits (Rev. 7:1–4; 14:1–5).

The 144,000 are sealed, the winds are loosed, a National Sunday Law is enacted, initiating Jacob’s Time of Trouble (Jer. 30:7); simultaneously, the war in Jerusalem (Zech. 14:1–5) takes place, and the commencement of Ezekiel 9 that removes the tares out of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination. After this, the woman transitions to sitting on the beast (Rev. 17:3). This second phase ushers in the new world order orchestrated by the false prophet and the United States—the two‑horned beast of Revelation 13:13–15.

After the sealing is complete, Inspiration declares: “…The people of God will then be plunged into those scenes of affliction and distress which prophets have described as the time of Jacob’s trouble. The cries of the faithful, persecuted ones ascend to heaven. And as the blood of Abel cried from the ground, there are voices also crying to God from martyrs’ graves, from the sepulchers of the sea, from mountain caverns, from convent vaults: ‘How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost Thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?’” Testimonies for the Church, Vol 5, p. 451.2.

Jacob’s Time of Trouble begins after the sealing of the 144,000 and continues after Ezekiel 9, encompassing the great multitude who come out of the “great tribulation” (Rev. 7:14). This multitude is persecuted both by their own brethren within their respective churches and by those who do not believe in God. They pass through the same experience as the 144,000 on their way home, but through a greater tribulation.

Once the sealing, purification, and deliverance of the 144,000 is complete, they remain untouched by death, for Jesus Himself protects them. “And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them” Rev. 9:6— the sealed ones stand under Christ’s special safeguarding during the final crisis.

These developments—national apostasy, the repudiation of principles of the Constitution, and the national act enforcing Sunday observance—prepare the way for the formation of the image of the beast. Inspiration now reveals how this image is created in two distinct phases.

Two Phases Create the Image of the Beast

The first phase in forming the image of the beast occurs when the United States—the beast with “two horns like a lamb”— “spake as a dragon” (Rev. 13:11). Remember, it is through the legislative process, the civil arm of the nation, that it ultimately passes a National Sunday Law. At the same time, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit represents Christendom in its apostate, rebellious form; it wages war against God’s witnesses. “The beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit… makes war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them” (Rev. 11:7).

The United States openly repudiates, abjures, and scraps the principles of its Constitution, abandoning its foundational protections of liberty of conscience; it will enact a National Sunday Law, granting civil authorities the power to enforce a religious decree in harmony with Papal Rome.

Inspiration describes this moment with unmistakable clarity:

“By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near.” Testimonies for the Church, Vol 5, p. 451.1.

Protestants are foremost in clasping hands with the Roman Power (Papacy) and spiritualism into a “threefold union” (confederacy). The Constitution is rejected, setting the stage for the false prophet to manifest miracles, bring fire down from heaven, and announce the coming of the false Christ.

When the woman “sits on the heads” (Rev. 17:9), the religious bodies are fully united. At that moment, the false prophet arises and, through miracles, deceives the United States (the two‑horned beast) into using its civil authority to “make an image to the beast” (Rev. 13:14). This marks the union of church and state in the very pattern of Rome, culminating in the enforcement of a death decree upon all who refuse to worship the image (Rev. 13:13–15). In this transition, the woman Babylon (Rev. 17:5) moves from sitting on the heads to sitting upon “the scarlet coloured beast” (Rev. 17:3), now fully supported by the civil power she controls, an international system under her influence.

With the civil and religious powers united, the false prophet now steps forward to authenticate the image of the beast through miracle‑working power.

The False Prophet Performs Miracles

This transition prepares the way for the false prophet’s full display of miracle‑working power. “John was now prepared to witness the thrilling scenes in the great conflict between those who keep the commandments of God and those who make void His law. He saw the wonder-working power arise that was to deceive all who should dwell upon the earth who were not connected with God, ‘saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live’… (par. 4), [See Rev. 13:14]. Of the loyal and true who do not bow to the decrees of earthly rulers against the authority of the King of heaven, the revelator says, ‘Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. (par. 5). These lessons are for our benefit. We need to stay our faith upon God, for there is just before us a time that will try every soul. Christ upon the Mount of Olives rehearsed the fearful judgments that were to precede His second coming…. While these prophecies received a partial fulfillment at the destruction of Jerusalem, they have a more direct application in the last days.—Manuscript 100, 1893 (par. 6).” Christ Triumphant, p. 315.

Inspiration says that when the threefold union (confederacy) and the principles of the Constitution are repudiated, “we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan.” And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” 2 Corinthians 11:14.

Inspiration warns:

The time is coming when Satan will work miracles right in your sight, claiming that he is Christ; and if your feet are not firmly established upon the truth of God, then you will be led away from your foundation….” The Review and Herald, April 3, 1888, par. 9.

As the crowning act in the great drama of deception, Satan himself will personate Christ. The church has long professed to look to the Saviour’s advent as the consummation of her hopes. Now the great deceiver will make it appear that Christ has come. In different parts of the earth, Satan will manifest himself among men as a majestic being of dazzling brightness, resembling the description of the Son of God given by John in the Revelation. [Revelation 1:13-15.]” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 624.1.

The false prophet deceives the United States (the two‑horned beast) through miracles to “make an image to the beast,” and the United States responds by enforcing civil legislation with a death decree (Rev. 13:14–15). This marks the second phase, the step that ushers in the one‑world government. Hence, a religious, political, social, and economic order—the international system of church and state—is formed to solve the world’s problems.

Spirit of Prophecy establishes a clear order of precedence in how the woman sits upon the heads and then upon the scarlet-colored beast. The Bible warned us of the end-time condition of the world before the Second Coming of Jesus: “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man” (Luke 17:26). Revelation 11:8 describes the same spiritual condition.

The Spiritual Condition of the Beast from the Bottomless Pit

“Which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt” (Rev. 11:8).

Sodom represents:

  • Moral corruption
  • Open rebellion
  • Perversion
  • Hostility to righteousness

Egypt represents:

  • Atheism (“Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice?” Ex. 5:2)
  • Denial of God
  • Rejection of divine authority

Therefore, the “great city” symbolizes a world system combining:

  • Moral depravity (Sodom)
  • Atheistic rebellion (Egypt)

This is the spiritual climate in which the Bible is rejected, and its testimony is declared “dead.” “Where also our Lord was crucified” (Rev. 11:8).

Referring to the nations of today, it signifies:

  • The same spirit that crucified Christ
  • The same hatred of truth
  • The same union of church and state
  • The same rejection of God’s Word

Wherever Christ is rejected, He is crucified again (Heb. 6:6).

Thus, the “great city” (Rev. 17:18) represents the global anti‑God system at the end of time.

Now that the sealing of the first fruits is complete, the removal of the tares begins. Revelation 11 symbolizes this purification period as a seven‑day event.

“Three Days and an Half / After Three Days and an Half

“And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. (9) And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. (10) And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. (11) And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.” Rev. 11:8-11.

The “three days and an half” of verse nine, and “after three days and an half” of verse eleven are referencing the half-hour silence of Rev. 8:1 and the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Leviticus 23:6), a seven-day event in which God removes the tares from the Seventh-day Adventist denomination by the slaughter of Ezekiel 9.

Most interpreters collapse the two references into one, but the text itself does not sustain that conclusion.

1. Revelation 11 presents two separate 3½‑day periods.

A. First 3½ days — the bodies lie in the street

“Their dead bodies shall lie in the street… three days and an half” (Rev. 11:8, 9). This period describes public exposure, humiliation, and non‑burial.

B. Second 3½ days — the nations rejoice

“They… shall rejoice over them… and make merry… after three days and an half” (Rev. 11:10, 11). This is a different activity, with different actors and different symbolism.

The text presents two sequential experiences

  • First: the two witnesses lie exposed
  • Second: the world celebrates their silencing

These are two distinct time spans, each explicitly stated.

2. Two 3½‑day periods = 7 days total:

Revelation gives:

  • 3½ days (lying in the street)
  • 3½ days (global rejoicing)

Total: 7 days — simply the sum of the two durations.

3. Why the 7 days matter

Seven days is not random; it aligns with:

A. The Feast of Unleavened Bread — 7 days (Lev. 23:6)

Symbolizing:

  • purging leaven (sin)
  • separation from defilement

Its seven‑day structure is uniquely associated with the removal of corruption.

B. The purification of the church, Ezekiel 9

The message teaches:

  • The 144,000 are marked (sealed)
  • The church is cleansed
  • The wicked are removed (complete purification)

Thus, the seven‑day purification aligns typologically with:

  • Seven days of unleavened bread
  • Seven days of removing sin

The two 3½‑day periods in Revelation 11 form a seven‑day prophetic symbol that matches the seven‑day feast representing purification.

4. Why most commentators miss this

Many assume John is repeating the same 3½‑day period for emphasis:

Instead, the text gives:

  • Two different groups
  • Two different actions
  • Two different symbolic meanings
  • Two separate 3½‑day durations

Revelation 11 therefore presents two distinct 3½‑day periods—one of exposure and one of rejoicing—totaling seven literal days. This seven‑day span aligns typologically with the seven days of the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Lev. 23:6), the divinely appointed period for removing leaven (sin). In this way, the combined seven days point directly to the complete purification of the church described in Ezekiel 9. Inspiration confirms this same seven‑day period in the half‑hour silence of Revelation 8:1.

Let us look at what Inspiration says about the half-hour silence.

The Half-Hour Silence in Days

One hour represents the twenty‑fourth part of a prophetic year. Using the Biblical calendar of thirty days per month, this portion amounts to approximately two weeks.

“And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year” Ezekiel 4:6. (see also Numbers 14:34).

Because one hour equals two weeks, and a day contains twenty‑four hours (twenty‑four parts), we can calculate the half‑hour silence (Rev. 8:1) by dividing these twenty‑four parts in half:

24 hours= 12 months (1 year)
12 hours= 6 months
6   hours= 3 months
3   hours= 6 weeks (1 month and two weeks)
1   hour= 2 weeks
½  hour= 1 week or 7 days

Thus, half an hour equals one week, or seven literal days. Therefore, the purification of the Seventh‑day Adventist denomination will last seven days. Once this seven‑day purification closes, Revelation 11 advances to its next prophetic movement—the restoration and exaltation of the two witnesses. The judgment for the first fruits now ends, and the prophecy shifts from the humiliation of the witnesses to their resurrection and vindication. God now raises up the two witnesses and exalts (Loud Cry) them before all nations, marking a decisive transition from the denomination’s cleansing to the worldwide glorification of God’s Word.

Further down in this publication, Inspiration expands in great detail on the purification of the church, including numerous references concerning the destruction of the tares.

Come Up Hither

“And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.” Rev. 11:12.

History has recorded that the “two witnesses” would not remain silent. After the defiant, unbelieving power rejected the truth (v.7) as it is in Christ, God, through His divine providence and great power, opened the way for the two witnesses to “come up hither” and be restored to the world. He restored the authority of His Word when Papal Rome lost its influence over the nations and when France reversed its atheistic decree, allowing the “two witnesses” to be heralded again throughout the earth.

God’s faithful witnesses, slain by the blasphemous power that ‘ascendeth out of the bottomless pit,’ were not long to remain silent. ‘After three days and a half, the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.’ [Revelation 11:11.] It was in 1793 that the decree which prohibited the Bible passed the French Assembly. Three years and a half later a resolution rescinding the decree, and granting toleration to the Scriptures, was adopted by the same body. The world stood aghast at the enormity of guilt which had resulted from a rejection of the Sacred Oracles, and men recognized the necessity of faith in God and his Word as the foundation of virtue and morality. Saith the Lord, ‘Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.’ [Isaiah 37:23.] ‘Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is Jehovah.’ [Jeremiah 16:21.] (par. 1)” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 286.

“Concerning the two witnesses the prophet declares further: ‘And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.’ [Revelation 11:12.] Since France made war upon God’s two witnesses, they have been honored as never before. In 1804 the British and Foreign Bible Society was organized. This was followed by similar organizations, with numerous branches, upon the continent of Europe. In 1816, the American Bible Society was founded. When the British Society was formed, the Bible had been printed and circulated in fifty tongues. It has since been translated into more than two hundred languages and dialects. By the efforts of Bible societies, since 1804, more than 187,000,000 copies of the Bible have been circulated. (par. 1)” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 287.

Summary of translations since 1888:

  • 1888: About 450–500 languages (contingent upon 1900 data).
  • As of 2026: 4,007 languages with Scripture.
  • Increase: More than 3,500 new languages added since 1888.
  • Worldwide distribution: Roughly 4–5+ billion copies of theBible (in full or in part) have been circulated worldwide. https://christianeducatorsacademy.com/the-shocking-truth-how-many-christian-bibles-have-been-sold/?utm_source=copilot.com

Thus, the “Two Witnesses”—the Old and New Testaments—have indeed “ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.” Rev. 11:12.

But prophecy declares that history is about to repeat itself. The “two‑horned beast” (the United States) will speak as a dragon, and the “beast from the bottomless pit” (Christendom) temporarily suppresses the two witnesses and makes the Law of God appear void. Yet God, through His remnant, restores His Law, and the two witnesses are lifted up once more so that all nations behold them.

“And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.” Isaiah 58:12.

“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” John 12:32.

Jesus is about to be crucified afresh when this nation denies Him as the Creator by rejecting the Sabbath—the very sign that identifies Christ as the Maker of heaven and earth.

“For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Exodus 20:11.

“A time is coming when the law of God is, in a special sense, to be made void in our land. The rulers of our nation will, by legislative enactments, enforce the Sunday law, and thus God’s people be brought into great peril. When our nation, in its legislative councils, shall enact laws to bind the consciences of men in regard to their religious privileges, enforcing Sunday observance, and bringing oppressive power to bear against those who keep the seventh-day Sabbath, the law of God will, to all intents and purposes, be made void in our land; and national apostasy will be followed by national ruin. We see that those who are now keeping the commandments of God need to bestir themselves, that they may obtain the special help which God alone can give them. They should work more earnestly to delay as long as possible the threatened calamity. If, in our land of boasted freedom, a Protestant government should sacrifice every principle which enters into its Constitution, and propagate papal falsehood and delusion, well may we plead, ‘It is time for thee, Lord, to work, for they have made void thy law.’ Some may think that because it has been revealed in prophecy that our nation shall restrict the consciences of men, it must surely come; and that if we make an effort to preserve our liberty, we shall be acting the part of unfaithful servants, and thus come under the condemnation of God. (par. 6) This peril now threatens the people of God; and what are we going to do? Can we not assist in lifting the standard, and in calling to the front those who have a regard for their religious rights and privileges? God calls upon us to awake. We know the end is near. We know that the prophecies are fast fulfilling, which shows that we are living in the close of this world’s history. (par. 7) John was shown the last work for this time (Revelation 14:9-12), and he saw a people of whom he says, ‘Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.’ John tells us what was opened to him in vision: ‘And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament.’ This vision represents a people whose attention was called to the sanctuary in heaven. There John saw the ark of God, containing the tables of stone whereon was engraven the law of God; and this people have been seeking to be in harmony with heaven by keeping all God’s commandments. There has been great opposition because they have respected the Sabbath of the fourth commandment, which by the secular and religious world has been ignored. (par. 8)” The Review and Herald, December 18, 1888, Art. A.

John saw this final work in vision (Rev. 14:9–12): a people who “keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Their attention is drawn to the heavenly sanctuary, where the ark of God contains the tables of stone. This company—the 144,000—seeks harmony with heaven by keeping all of God’s commandments, despite great opposition from both the secular and religious world.

Jesus Rescues the Remnant

“…We are making life’s journey amid the perils of the last days. We need to watch carefully every step, and to be sure that we are following our great Leader. Skepticism, infidelity, dissipation, and crime are on every hand. It would be an easy matter to let go the reins of self-control, and plunge over the precipice to sure destruction. How great the mercy that surrounds and preserves us every moment! (par. 2) Infinite Love has cast up a pathway upon which the ransomed of the Lord may pass from earth to Heaven. That path is the Son of God. Angel guides are sent to direct our erring feet. Heaven’s glorious ladder is let down in every man’s path, barring his way to vice and folly. He must trample upon a crucified Redeemer ere he can pass onward to a life of sin. Our Heavenly Father’s voice is calling us, Come up hither. The tokens of his love are as numerous as the sand upon the sea-shore. The humble, trusting ones are guided and protected in the way of peace. But He who is infinite in wisdom compels none to accept Heaven’s most precious gift—compels none to walk in the path which has been cast up at such a cost. Everyone is permitted to choose for himself the narrow, shining steep that leads to Heaven, or that broader and easier way which ends in death. (par. 3)” The Signs of the Times, January 26, 1882, Art. B. (See also Our High Calling, p. 11.)

“…I saw a throne, and on it sat the Father and his Son Jesus Christ. I gazed on Jesus’ countenance and admired his lovely person. The Father’s person I could not behold, for a cloud of glorious light covered him. I asked Jesus if his Father had a form like himself; He said he had, but I could not behold it; for, said he, if you should for once see the glory of his person, you would cease to exist. Before the throne was the Advent people, the Church, and the world. I saw a company bowed down before the throne, deeply interested while most of them stood up disinterested and careless. Those who were bowed before the throne would offer up their prayers and look to Jesus, then he would look to his Father and appeared to be pleading with him. Then a light came from the Father to his Son and from him to the praying company. Then I saw an exceeding bright light come from the Father to the Son, and from the Son it waved over the people before the throne. But few would receive this great light. Many came out from under it and immediately resisted it. Others were careless and did not cherish the light, and it moved off from them. Some cherished it and went and bowed down before the throne with the little praying company. This company all received the light, and rejoiced in it as their countenances shone with its glory. Then I saw the Father rise from the throne and in a flaming chariot go into the Holy of Holies within the vail, and did sit. There I saw thrones which I had not seen before. Then Jesus rose up from the throne, and most of those who were bowed down rose up with him. And I did not see one ray of light pass from Jesus to the careless multitude after he rose up, and they were left in perfect darkness. Those who rose up when Jesus did, kept their eyes fixed on him as he left the throne, and led them out a little way, then he raised his right arm, and we heard his lovely voice saying, wait ye, I am going to my Father to receive the Kingdom. Keep your garments spotless, and in a little while I will return from the wedding, and receive you to myself. And I saw a cloudy chariot with wheels like flaming fire. Angels were all about the chariot as it came where Jesus was; he stepped into it and was borne to the Holiest where the Father sat. Then I beheld Jesus as he was before the Father, a great High Priest. On the hem of his garment was a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate. Then Jesus shewed me the difference between faith and feeling. And I saw those who rose up with Jesus send up their faith to Jesus in the Holiest, and praying, Father, give us thy spirit. Then Jesus would breathe on them the Holy Ghost. In the breath was light, power, and much love, joy, and peace. Then I turned to look at the company who were still bowed before the throne. They did not know that Jesus had left it. Satan appeared to be by the throne trying to carry on the work of God. I saw them look up to the throne and pray, My Father, give us thy spirit. Then Satan would breathe on them an unholy influence. In it, there was light and much power, but no sweet love, joy, and peace. Satan’s object was to keep them deceived and to draw back and deceive God’s children. I saw one after another leave the company who were praying to Jesus in the Holiest, go and join those before the throne, and they at once received the unholy influence of Satan. (par. 1) About four months since, I had a vision of events, all in the future. And I saw the time of trouble, such as never was,—Jesus told me it was the time of Jacob’s trouble, and that we should be delivered out of it by the voice of God. Just before we entered it, we all received the seal of the living God. Then I saw the four Angels cease to hold the four winds. And I saw famine, pestilence, and sword, nation rose against nation, and the whole world was in confusion. Then we cried to God for deliverance day and night till we began to hear the bells on Jesus’ garment. And I saw Jesus rise up in the Holiest, and as he came out, we heard the tinkling of bells, and knew our High Priest was coming out. Then we heard the voice of God, which shook the heavens and earth, and gave the 144,000 the day and hour of Jesus’ coming. Then the saints were free, united, and full of the glory of God, for he had turned their captivity. And I saw a flaming cloud come where Jesus stood, and he laid off his priestly garment and put on his kingly robe, took his place on the cloud which carried him to the east, where it first appeared to the saints on earth, a small black cloud, which was the sign of the Son of Man. While the cloud was passing from the Holiest to the east, which took a number of days, the Synagogue of Satan worshiped at the saints feet. (par. 2)” The Day-Star, March 14, 1846.

The Destruction of the Tares

“And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.” Rev. 11:13.

Let us examine the parts of verse 13 closely:

1. The same hour
2. A great earthquake— “in the earthquake”
3. A tenth part of the city fell
4. Seven thousand slain
5. The remnant were affrighted and gave glory to God

The subject introduced at the beginning of chapter eleven is the investigative judgment, and verse 1 speaks of “them that worship therein.” Verse 13 identifies “the remnant” who “gave glory to God”—the faithful ones, the 144,000, who are delivered according to Daniel 12:1. Their names are retained in the Book of Life because they kept pace with advancing light.

Revelation 11:13 plainly states that a destruction occurs that destroys a tenth part. And since Scripture consistently gives warning before the destruction of the wicked, logic demands that “the tenth part of the city” must apply to the wicked within the Seventh‑day Adventist denomination today, for the chapter is dealing with the investigative judgment of the living. Therefore, those who have failed to follow our Savior and keep pace with the unfolding light are spued out and destroyed—eternally lost. (See Revelation 3:14–19; Matthew 13:30, where the tares are destroyed first and the wheat gathered into the barn.)

A Tenth Part of the City Fell

Why only “a tenth part” and not all ten parts?

The Bible explicitly identifies one part, implying that the remaining nine parts must be equally universal and encompass the same category. If one part is religious in nature, then logic requires that the other nine parts are also religious.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, universality means “the quality or state of being universal (= existing everywhere, or involving everyone).” Likewise, universalmeans “existing everywhere or involving everyone.”

Since Revelation 11 addresses a religious body, all ten parts must represent Christendom worldwide—universal. Therefore, the “tenth part of the city” is the portion of that universal religious body which falls, specifically, the part representing the Seventh‑day Adventist denomination.

Let us look at another Biblical parallel of the number ten:

Daniel chapter seven provides a perfect example:

  • The ten horns represent ten kingdoms.
  • These ten kingdoms symbolize all the kingdoms universally that arose from Rome.

“And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise…” Daniel 7:24.

Thus, the prophetic use of “ten” consistently denotes a whole, universal set.

A Tenth Belongs to the Lord

Scripture also uses the tenth as a portion belonging to God:

“For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; (2) To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; (3) Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. (4) Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.” Hebrews 7:1-4.

“And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S: it is holy unto the LORD.” Leviticus 27:30.

“Slain of Men Seven Thousand”

There are about 24.3 million Seventh‑day Adventists worldwide as of 2026 (Adventist Archives). Christendom as a whole numbers approximately 2.65+ billion Christians globally (Statistics & Data).

When the Bible says that there were “slain of men seven thousand,” the number cannot be literal. It symbolically represents all the wicked within the city who are slain in the judgment.

What Does the Number Seven Represent?

The Seven Churches of Revelation (Chapters 1–3)

The seven churches of Revelation, chapters 1 through 3—Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea—were literal congregations established in the first century. Yet Scripture uses these historical churches symbolically to represent the church throughout the later Christian era.

Inspiration explains:

“The names of the seven churches are symbolic of the church in different periods of the Christian Era. The number 7 indicates completeness, and is symbolic of the fact that the messages extend to the end of time, while the symbols used reveal the condition of the church at different periods in the history of the world.” Acts of the Apostles, p. 585.3. (See Isaiah 4:1)

Thus, the seven churches symbolize the entire Christian era, and the number seven marks the message as complete, extending to the end of time.

Jesus instructs John to write what he sees in a book and send it to the seven churches:

“Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. Rev. 1:11.

Laodicea: The Seventh Church,

The name Laodicea is a compound of two Greek words:

  1. Laos (λαός) — people
  2. Dikē (δίκη) — justice, judgment, right

Thus, the name Laodicea literally means “the people’s judgment” or “the justice of the people.”

In the Christian world, only one body proclaims a distinct judgment message. All Christendom recognizes that the Seventh-day Adventist denomination alone announces the Investigative Judgment of Revelation 14:7— “The hour of His judgment is come.”

Therefore, the seventh church — Laodicea, the Seventh-day Adventist denomination — is under condemnation and is the first to feel the wrath of God. Since seven signifies completeness, the purification of the denomination will be thorough

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17.)

The SDA Message Goes to “Many,” Not to All

The Bible teaches that the Seventh-day Adventist message goes only to many, not to all the world.

“And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.” Rev. 10:11.

The Seventh‑day Adventist denomination is therefore not universal; its message is directed to many, not to all. This reinforces the prophetic identity of the Seventh‑day Adventist denomination as the “tenth part” of the city that falls, and as the Laodicean body that undergoes purification first.

The Condition of Laodicea

Inspiration plainly reveals what is about to happen in the Seventh‑day Adventist denomination. The tragedy is that the majority are in self‑denial and reject the very work Jesus is about to perform.

They believe they are:

“…rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing…”

But Jesus declares they are:

“…wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.”

They reject His truth and righteousness. Therefore, He has no choice but to spue them outto cut them down in the judgment of Ezekiel 9.

The Same Hour

1. The Judgment Message Comes First — The Warning Phase

Before God executes judgment, He always sends a warning message:

  • Noah before the Flood
  • Jonah before Nineveh
  • Christ before Jerusalem
  • The Three Angels’ Messages—judgment of the dead and living—before the close of probation on the first fruits and then the great multitude.
  • The final message to the church today before the executive phase of Ezekiel 9

This is the judicial announcement — the message phase of the judgment.

Revelation 11:3 describes this phase:

“I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days…”

This is the 42‑month testimony, the final warning to the church.

2. Then Comes the Executive Phase — Ezekiel 9 Judgment

After the warning comes the execution — the judicial order carried out by the angels:

  • The tares are removed
  • The wheat is preserved
  • The 144,000 delivered
  • The church is purified

This is the executive portion of the judgment.

Christ Himself taught this order:

In the time of the “harvest,” Jesus says, “Gather ye together first the tares in bundles to burn them… but gather the wheat into my barn.” Matthew 13:30.

This separation is the same as the hour in Revelation 11:13 and the half-hour silence in Revelation 8:1.

3. The 42 Months End in the Spring — At Passover

The timeline is unmistakable:

  • Gentiles tread the holy city in the Fall (Rev. 11:2).
  • 42 months later end in the Spring.
  • Spring aligns with Passover (Lev. 23:5).
  • Passover week begins at even (sundown).
  • Sundown transitions into the next biblical day — April 4.
  • April 4 begins the Feast of Unleavened Bread, a seven‑day period (Lev. 23:6).

This seven‑day feast is the antitypical period for the purification of the church.

4. The Seven Days = The Half‑Hour Silence (Rev. 8:1)

God’s Time Piece:

  • 1 prophetic hour = 2 literal weeks
  • ½ hour = 1 literal week
  • 1 literal week = 7 days

Therefore:

The half‑hour silence = 7 days of literal judgment.

  • This is the duration of Ezekiel 9.
  • This is the same hour as in Revelation 11:13.
  • This is the seven days of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

Biblically, all three align perfectly.

5. What Happens During Those Seven Days

Revelation 11:13 lists the events inside that prophetic hour:

  • A great earthquake — “in the earthquake
  • The tenth part of the city falls — the Seventh‑day Adventist portion
  • Seven thousand slain — symbolizing the complete destruction of all the wicked within Laodicea
  • The remnant terrified — shaken by the solemnity of the judgment
  • The remnant glorifies God — sealed and delivered

This is the execution phase — the purification of the church.

During these same seven days:

A. The Church is Purified — Ezekiel 9

  • While the angels execute judgment on the unfaithful.
  • Michael delivers the 144,000. (Daniel 12:1)

B. The Gentile Powers Are Overthrown — Zechariah 14 & 1:21

At the same time, the Gentile powers who tread the holy city are crushed. The U.S. and U.N. peacekeeping forces in Jerusalem are overthrown as Christ intervenes directly.

Zechariah explains the divine action:

“These are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles…” (Zech. 1:21)

  • Fray = terrify
  • Cast out = overthrow

This is the same intervention described in Zechariah 14:4-5, when Christ stands upon the Mount of Olives and delivers His people. The splitting of the Mount first figuratively represents Him clearing the land during the premillennial war; after the millennium, He literally splits the Mount to prepare the “very great valley” for the New Jerusalem.

This is the same intervention depicted in Zechariah 14:4–5, in which Christ stands upon the Mount of Olives and delivers His people.

The splitting of the Mount has two applications:

  • Premillennial (figurative): Christ clears the land during the war, removing obstacles — a figurative “splitting” of the Mount.
  • Postmillennial (literal): Christ physically splits the Mount to prepare the site for the descent of the New Jerusalem.

The intervention of Zechariah 14 and the “great earthquake” of Revelation 11:13 are simultaneous events—the clearing of the land and the removal of the tares in Ezekiel 9 prepare the way for the 144,000, who are delivered (Daniel 12:1) and brought into their own land (Ezekiel 36:24). With this in mind, we now examine the meaning of the phrase: “the same hour was there a great earthquake.”

The Earthquake

The word “earthquake” in Revelation 11:13 is the Greek noun σεισμός (seismos), Strong’s 4578, defined as:

  • A shaking, a commotion
  • An earthquake (literal ground‑shaking)
  • A tempest (a violent shaking of air or sea)

Origin of the word: From the Greek verb σείω (seió), Strong’s 4579, meaning “to shake” or “to agitate.”

How the Bible Uses Seismos

Across Scripture, seismos appears in three distinct categories:

A. Literal Earthquakes

  • Matthew 27:51 — the veil torn, the earth shook
  • Acts 16:26 — the prison shaken open
  • Revelation 6:12 — the Lisbon earthquake (November 1, 1755), opening the sixth seal

B. Symbolic Language Announcing Divine Intervention or Judgment

  • Revelation 8:5 — voices, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake: judgment of the living
  • Revelation 11:13 — a great earthquake: destruction of the tares
  • Revelation 16:18 — the final, greatest earthquake

These scenes mark prophetic turning points — moments when God intervenes in human history.

C. Symbolic Shaking of a System, Nation, or People

The prophets use “earthquake” symbolically:

  • Haggai 2:6, 7 — God shakes the nations
  • Isaiah 2:19 — God shakes earthly powers
  • Joel 3:16 — God shakes the heavens and the earth
  • Hebrews 12:26, 27 — God shakes the church, removing what cannot stand

Here, the “earthquake” is institutional, spiritual, and judicial, not geological.

With these biblical categories established, Revelation 11:13’s use of seismos becomes unmistakably clear—it signals a prophetic turning point, not a geological event.

The Symbolic Language of Revelation 11:13: God’s Judgment Against the Church

Revelation 11:13 does not describe tectonic plates moving.

It describes:

  • The fall of a tenth part of the city
  • The death of seven thousand (a symbol of complete purification)
  • The remnant giving glory to God

This is internal church judgment — a cleansing, not a natural disaster.

The Strong’s definition of seismos in Revelation 11:13 reveals a prophetic truth: It marks the judgment of the living, when the tares are removed from the Seventh-day Adventist denomination and the wheat — the 144,000 — are gathered into the barn (Matthew 13:30), commencing the harvest of the living.

When the judgment throne was set up, Revelation 4:5 declares:

“Out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices…” This scene marks the judgment of the dead, which began in 1844 and is soon to pass to the living.

Revelation 8:5 reverses the order — voices, thunderings, lightnings — but adds “an earthquake.” This addition signals the purification of the denomination, the beginning of the harvest of the living, starting with the first fruits — the 144,000.

Thus, the term earthquake aligns perfectly with Revelation’s consistent use of seismos to mark major prophetic transitions. Revelation 11:13 warns of divine judgment upon the denomination.

This internal judgment scene demands confirmation from Inspiration itself.

What does the Spirit of Prophecy say about this shaking and purification?

The Sealing Prepares God’s People for the Shaking

“(Revelation 7:2.) Seal Is a Settling Into Truth—Just as soon as the people of God are sealed in their foreheads—it is not any seal or mark that can be seen, but a settling into the truth, both intellectually and spiritually, so they cannot be moved—just as soon as God’s people are sealed and prepared for the shaking, it will come. Indeed, it has begun already; the judgments of God are now upon the land, to give us warning, that we may know what is coming (Manuscript 173, 1902).” Ellen G. White, Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, Vol. 4, p. 1161.6.

Once the sealing work prepares God’s people, prophecy reveals the next development—the separation caused by the approaching storm.

Many Will Abandon the Faith

As the storm approaches, a large class who have professed faith in the third angel’s message, but have not been sanctified through obedience to the truth, abandon their position, and join the ranks of the opposition. By uniting with the world and partaking of its spirit, they have come to view matters in nearly the same light; and when the test is brought, they are prepared to choose the easy, popular side. Men of talent and pleasing address, who once rejoiced in the truth, employ their powers to deceive and mislead souls. They become the most bitter enemies of their former brethren. When Sabbath-keepers are brought before the courts to answer for their faith, these apostates are the most efficient agents of Satan to misrepresent and accuse them, and by false reports and insinuations to stir up the rulers against them.” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 608.2.

Inspiration identifies this class, and prophecy shows precisely when this shaking takes place.

The “storm” does not refer to the image of the beast, because by that time the tares have already been removed through Ezekiel 9, the purification. Rather, it points to the moment when the churches confederate, reject the principles of the Constitution, and enact a National Sunday Law, which marks the close of the sealing and the beginning of Jacob’s Time of Trouble, Ezekiel 9, and the war in Jerusalem.

This approaching “storm” is the union of religious bodies (Rev. 17:9) and Sunday observance, during which the unsanctified within the Seventh‑day Adventist denomination abandon the truth, “join the ranks of the opposition,” and become “the most bitter enemies of their former brethren.”

But Inspiration also reveals why this separation occurs—the straight testimony that confronts Laodicean self‑deception.

The denomination is about to undergo a major shake-up!

Shaking Is Caused by the Straight Testimony

“I asked the meaning of the shaking I had seen and was shown that it would be caused by the straight testimony called forth by the counsel of the True Witness to the Laodiceans. This will have its effect upon the heart of the receiver, and will lead him to exalt the standard and pour forth the straight truth. Some will not bear this straight testimony. They will rise up against it, and this is what will cause a shaking among God’s people. (par. 2) I saw that the testimony of the True Witness has not been half heeded. The solemn testimony upon which the destiny of the church hangs has been lightly esteemed, if not entirely disregarded. This testimony must work deep repentance; all who truly receive it will obey it and be purified (par. 3).” Early Writings, p. 270.

This leads directly to the next solemn truth: only those who respond to this testimony with repentance receive God’s seal.

When you consider what Inspiration is saying, there are those unsanctified and those unable to bear the straight testimony, and by the mercy of God, they leave the church, but for those who continue to stay and reject the warning messages, God will have no choice but to strike them down with Ezekiel 9, removing the tares from the denomination.

Those Who Excuse Sin Will Not Receive the Seal

“Who are standing in the counsel of God at this time? Is it those who virtually excuse wrongs among the professed people of God and who murmur in their hearts, if not openly, against those who would reprove sin? Is it those who take their stand against them and sympathize with those who commit wrong? No, indeed! Unless they repent, and leave the work of Satan in oppressing those who have the burden of the work and in holding up the hands of sinners in Zion, they will never receive the mark of God’s sealing approval. They will fall in the general destruction of the wicked, represented by the work of the five men bearing slaughter weapons. Mark this point with care: Those who receive the pure mark of truth, wrought in them by the power of the Holy Ghost, represented by a mark by the man in linen, are those ‘that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done’ in the church. Their love for purity and the honor and glory of God is such, and they have so clear a view of the exceeding sinfulness of sin, that they are represented as being in agony, even sighing and crying. Read the ninth chapter of Ezekiel.” Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 3, p. 267.1.

The refusal to repent brings the next prophetic step into view—the literal fulfillment of Ezekiel 9.

Study the 9th chapter of Ezekiel. These words will be literally fulfilled; yet the time is passing, and the people are asleep. They refuse to humble their souls and to be converted. Not a great while longer will the Lord bear with the people who have such great and important truths revealed to them, but who refuse to bring these truths into their individual experience. The time is short. God is calling; will you hear? Will you receive His message? Will you be converted before it is too late? Soon, very soon, every case will be decided for eternity. Letter 106, 1909, pp. 2, 3, 5, 7. (To ‘The churches in Oakland and Berkeley,’ September 26, 1909).” Manuscript Release, Vol. 1, p. 260.

Ezekiel’s vision now becomes the lens through which Inspiration describes the fate of those who persist in unbelief.

“The Lord reads the heart as an open book. The men who are not connected with God have done many things after the imagination of their own evil hearts. The Lord declares concerning them, ‘They have turned unto Me their back, and not the face, though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them; yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.’ We are amid the perils of the last days, the time will soon come when the prophecy of Ezekiel 9 will be fulfilled; that prophecy should be carefully studied, for it will be fulfilled to the very letter.” Chap. 158 – To A. R. Henry, H- 31A- 1894, Ashfield Camp-ground, N.S.W., Oct. 27, 1894.

The Destroying Angel Follows the Sealing

“When God was about to smite the first-born of Egypt, He commanded the Israelites to gather their children from among the Egyptians into their own dwellings and strike their door posts with blood, that the destroying angel might see it and pass over their homes. It was the work of parents to gather in their children. This is your work, this is my work, and the work of every mother who believes the truth. The angel is to place a mark upon the forehead of all who are separated from sin and sinners, and the destroying angel will follow, to slay utterly both old and young.” Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, p. 505.2.

With the sealing complete, Inspiration shows where the purification begins—at the leadership, the ancient men.

Ezekiel 9 Begins at the Leadership (“men of responsibility”) — the Ancient Men

“In the ninth chapter of Ezekiel is portrayed the fate of the men of responsibility who have not glorified God by faithfulness and integrity. Read this chapter. Notice especially verses four to six: [quoted]. At the appointed time, the Lord God of Israel will do His work most thoroughly.” Manuscript Release, Vol. 18, p. 183.5.

Note: emphasis is placed on “men of responsibility”!

What does Ezekiel 9:6 say?

The purification starts at the top with the leadership, the ancient men, or the false watchman.

“Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.”

Here we see that the church–the Lord’s sanctuary–was the first to feel the stroke of the wrath of God. The ancient men, those to whom God had given great light and who had stood as guardians of the spiritual interests of the people, had betrayed their trust. They had taken the position that we need not look for miracles and the marked manifestation of God’s power as in former days. Times have changed. These words strengthen their unbelief, and they say: The Lord will not do good, neither will He do evil. He is too merciful to visit His people in judgment. Thus ‘Peace and safety’ is the cry from men who will never again lift up their voice like a trumpet to show God’s people their transgressions and the house of Jacob their sins. These dumb dogs that would not bark are the ones who feel the just vengeance of an offended God. Men, maidens, and little children all perish together….” Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, p. 211.

The prophet’s description of the ancient men aligns perfectly with the Spirit of Prophecy’s expansion of the same scene.

“The mark of deliverance has been set upon those ‘that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done.’ Now the angel of death goes forth, represented in Ezekiel’s vision by the men with the slaughtering weapons, to whom the command is given: ‘Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women; but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary.’ Says the prophet, ‘They began at the ancient men which were before the house.’ [Ezekiel 9:1-6.] The work of destruction begins among those who have professed to be the spiritual guardians of the people. The false watchmen are the first to fall. There are none to pity or to spare. Men, women, maidens, and little children perish together.” The Great Controversy, 1888 ed., p. 656.2.

With the purification complete, prophecy does not pause—it advances. Once the house of God has been cleansed, the focus of Revelation shifts from the internal judgment of the church to the external judgments that fall upon the world. The next movements in the prophetic timeline are announced by the last three trumpets, which Scripture designates as the three Woes. These woes unfold within the Christian dispensation and signal the global consequences that follow the sealing, the shaking, and the purification. Thus, the study naturally moves from Ezekiel 9 to the woe trumpets that shape the closing events of earth’s history.

The Three Woes

Without entering into the detailed exposition of each woe, it is important to note that all three occur within the Christian dispensation. According to Revelation’s seven trumpets, the last three trumpets are specifically designated as woe trumpets. Unlike the first four, these final trumpets sound an alarm that a major transition is to take place after the fourth trumpet. Inspiration therefore connects the last three trumpets with the New Testament period.

“And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!”  Revelation 8:13.

The First Woe — Fifth Trumpet

The first woe accompanies the sounding of the fifth trumpet:

“One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.” Revelation 9:12.

Inspiration describes the moral and spiritual conditions that accompany this woe:

“Those who have been self-indulgent and ready to yield to pride and fashion and display, will sneer at the conscientious, truth-loving, God-fearing people, and will, in this work sneer at the God of heaven Himself. The Bible is disregarded, the wisdom of men exalted, and Satan and the man of sin worshiped by the wisdom of this age, while the angel is flying through the midst of heaven crying ‘Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth.’ (Revelation 8:13). (par. 1) I have been shown that the hand of the Lord is stretched out already to punish those who will become monuments of divine displeasure and holy vengeance, for the day of recompense has come when men who exalted the man of sin in the place of Jehovah in worshiping an idol sabbath in the place of the Sabbath of the Lord Jehovah will find it a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God, for he is a consuming fire. (par. 2)” The Ellen G. White 1888 Materials, p. 485.

The Second Woe — Sixth Trumpet

Revelation 11 announces the second woe.

“The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.” Revelation 11:14.

Immediately following this declaration, the seventh trumpet sounds:

“And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 11:15.

Prophetic Application

After the purification of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination and the defeat of the U.S. and the U.N. by the war in Jerusalem (Zechariah 14), the prophetic announcement is made that “the second woe has passed,” and the third woe is imminent. The third woe unfolds under the seventh trumpet, leading directly into the final events of earth’s history.

When the prophetic sequence reaches its conclusion, Christ takes back what was always His by right. Humanity was entrusted with stewardship over the earth, yet failed through sin. Christ, through His sacrifice, reclaimed what man lost—and in His love, He restores the kingdom and the whole earth to redeemed humanity once again.

This restoration is not merely symbolic—it is governmental. Under the seventh trumpet, Christ establishes His premillennial kingdom, in which the redeemed share in His authority before the final eradication of sin.

The disciples understood that the kingdom would one day be restored, because Israel of old lost it through idolatry. Christ did not say there would be no kingdom; He simply told them they were not to “know the times or the seasons,” because the restoration would occur two thousand years later, in our day.

“Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? (7) And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.” Acts 1:6–7.

The book of Acts further affirms this restoration:

“After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David… that the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles…” Acts 15:15–18.

These verses cannot refer to the millennium, because all the saints go to heaven with Jesus, and all the wicked and the elements of the earth are consumed by the brightness of His coming (2 Thessalonians 2:8; 2 Peter 3:10–12).

They cannot refer to heaven, because there is no “residue of men” seeking the Lord after probation closes. No Gentiles flow into the kingdom once the plagues fall (Revelation 16).

The dual throne in heaven cannot be the one referred to, because Jesus is the Son of David, and the throne in the New Jerusalem is the shared throne of the Father and the Lamb (Revelation 22:1).

Therefore, the Gentiles flowing into the kingdom must occur before the plagues, while probation for the great multitude is still open. This is not heaven, nor the New Jerusalem after the millennium.

Isaiah confirms this premillennial gathering:

“And the Gentiles shall come to thy light… thy gates shall be open continually… the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls… the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish.” Isaiah 60:3, 5, 10–12.

Thus, the rebuilding of the tabernacle of David can only be premillennial—when Christ sets up His kingdom according to Daniel 2:44, Revelation 11:15, Isaiah 2:1–5, and many other kindred texts.

“In the last days… all nations shall flow unto it… out of Zion shall go forth the law… nation shall not lift up sword against nation…” Isaiah 2:1–5.

Christ said,“My kingdom is not of this world.” John 18:36.

What did Jesus mean by those words?

The kingdom of God comes not with outward show. The gospel of the grace of God, with its spirit of self-abnegation (self-denial), can never be in harmony with the spirit of the world. The two principles are antagonistic. ‘The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.’ 1 Corinthians 2:14. (par. 1) But today in the religious world there are multitudes who, as they believe, are working for the establishment of the kingdom of Christ as an earthly and temporal dominion. They desire to make our Lord the ruler of the kingdoms of this world, the ruler in its courts and camps, its legislative halls, its palaces and market places. They expect Him to rule through legal enactments, enforced by human authority. Since Christ is not now here in person, they themselves will undertake to act in His stead, to execute the laws of His kingdom. The establishment of such a kingdom is what the Jews desired in the days of Christ. They would have received Jesus, had He been willing to establish a temporal dominion, to enforce what they regarded as the laws of God, and to make them the expositors of His will and the agents of His authority. But He said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world.’ John 18:36. He would not accept the earthly throne. (par. 2) The government under which Jesus lived was corrupt and oppressive; on every hand were crying abuses,—extortion, intolerance, and grinding cruelty. Yet the Saviour attempted no civil reforms. He attacked no national abuses, nor condemned the national enemies. He did not interfere with the authority or administration of those in power. He who was our example kept aloof from earthly governments. Not because He was indifferent to the woes of men, but because the remedy did not lie in merely human and external measures. To be efficient, the cure must reach men individually, and must regenerate the heart. (par. 3) Not by the decisions of courts or councils or legislative assemblies, not by the patronage of worldly great men, is the kingdom of Christ established, but by the implanting of Christ’s nature in humanity through the work of the Holy Spirit. ‘As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.’ John 1:12, 13. Here is the only power that can work the uplifting of mankind. And the human agency for the accomplishment of this work is the teaching and practicing of the word of God.” (par. 4) The Desire of Ages, p. 509.

“Men are to become the subjects of Christ’s kingdom. Through the divine power imputed to them, they are to return to their allegiance. By laws and resources God has ordained a heavenly communication with man’s spiritual life, that in its action is as mysterious as the science and operation of the wind. (John 3:7, 8.) Christ declared, ‘My kingdom is not of this world.’ While it imprints its influence upon earthly governments, it cannot take the slightest imprint from them without marring the divine similitude. So spiritual is the character of God’s work upon the human heart that receives it, that it makes every one a new creature, without destroying or weakening any capability God has given to man. It purifies every attribute fit for connection with the divine nature. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit, and when man is born from above, a heavenly peace pervades the soul. (p. 8.2) Christ’s subjects are those who keep his commandments. These only are counted as his subjects. If after the light has come, the disobedient continue in transgression, they are subjects of the kingdom of the prince of this world. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (p. 9.1) But the heavenly principles that distinguish those who are one with Christ from those who are one with the world have become almost indistinguishable. The professed people of Christ are no longer a separate and peculiar people. The line of demarcation is indistinct. People are subordinating themselves to the world, to its practices, its customs, its selfishness. The church has gone over to the world in transgression of the law, when the world should have come over to the church in obedience to the law. Daily the church is becoming converted to the world. Professing Christians are slaves of mammon. Their indulgence of appetite, and extravagant expenditure of money for selfish gratification, greatly dishonors God. (p. 9.2) Contrary to worldly kingdoms, Christ does not find his subjects, —he makes them. Those who stand under the blood-stained banner of Prince Immanuel are the subjects of a kingdom not recognized by worldly kingdoms, whose subjects have wandered from their allegiance to God, from their obedience to the law of his kingdom. These are accounted as dead in trespasses and sins. They are destitute of the Spirit of God, which worketh in the children of obedience. (p. 10.1) I am come, Christ said, to set up a new kingdom. Except a man be born of the Spirit, he cannot be enrolled as a subject of my kingdom. ‘If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him; but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you…. He that hath [the light on] my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” (p. 10.2) Special Testimony to Battle Creek Church (PH086, 1898)—Forgetfulness, pp. 8-10.

This kingdom is not a political or oppressive earthly dominion, but a purified kingdom — “built up a spiritual house… a holy nation” (1 Peter 2:5, 9). And “except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). Its loyal subjects are those who keep the commandments of God and have the Testimony of Jesus Christ (Rev. 12:17). This kingdom is established before the gathering of the great multitude.

Inspiration confirms that Christ’s kingdom is to be established on earth before the saints go to heaven.

The Premillennial Kingdom

When the four angels let go, Christ will set up His kingdom. None receive the latter rain but those who are doing all they can. Christ would help us. All could be overcomers by the grace of God, through the blood of Jesus. All heaven is interested in the work. Angels are interested.” Spalding and Magan, p. 3.2 (March 18, 1852)

The “four angels let go” refers to Revelation 7:1-4; when the sealing is finished, the God of Heaven sets up His kingdom. This is NOT a millennial kingdom of peace; it is a premillennial kingdom set up as an ark of safety to gather the first fruits—the 144,000—and Earth’s final harvest of the “great multitude.” The wheat is put into the barn, the kingdom. (Matthew 13:30).

Satan knew what he had lost. He now feared that his empire over the world was to be contested, his right disputed, and his power broken. He knew through prophecy, that a Savior was predicted and that his kingdom would not be established in earthly triumph and with worldly honor and display. He (Satan) knew that ancient prophecies foretold a kingdom to be established by the Prince of Heaven upon the earth, which he claimed as his dominion. His (Jesus) kingdom would embrace all the kingdoms of the world, and then his power (Satan) and his glory would cease and he (Satan) receive his retribution for the sins he had introduced into the world and for the misery he had brought upon man. He knew that everything which concerned his prosperity was pending upon his success or failure in overcoming Christ with his temptations in the wilderness. He brought to bear upon Christ every artifice and force of his powerful temptations to allure him from his allegiance.” The Review and Herald, March 3, 1874 par. 23.

Once the sealing of the 144,000 is finished, the winds are let loose; a time of trouble commences; Ezekiel 9 removes the tares, Michael delivers the 144,000 (remnant) and brings them into their own land, into the land after Jerusalem has been cleared out by the war of Zechariah 14.

“For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. (25) Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. (26) A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36: 24-26. (See Zech. 13:1; Heb. 10:16).

The Covenant Promise

“And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.” Genesis 12:7.

God was speaking about the seed of Abraham that would inherit the covenant promise, the promise of the land.

“Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. (16) Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. (17) And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. (18) For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. (19) Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. (20) Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. (21) Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. (22) But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. (23) But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. (24) Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. (25) But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. (26) For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. (27) For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. (29) And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:15-29.

The Law of God written in stone and given at Mount Sinai (Horeb) came long after the promise was made to Abraham, and his seed, and “no man disannulleth”what God has promised. The promise was made for those who believe in Jesus Christ and have “put on Christ,” the righteousness of Christ (Zephaniah 2:3), but the promise made to the seed of Abraham is speaking to the faithful today when Jesus shall fulfill the restoration of the land as an inheritance to the 144,000. (See Ezekiel 47:13-23; Ch. 48).

And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. (45) Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.” Daniel 2: 44, 45.

The Bible says that “in the days of these kings, not before and not after, but “in the days,” Christ sets up His kingdom. God’s kingdom will “break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms” that will not accept Him.

That is exactly what Zechariah 14 says:

“(8) And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem (See Ezek. 47:1-12); half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. (9) And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one…. (12) And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. (13) And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour. (14) And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance. (15) And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague. (16) And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. (17) And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain. (18) And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles. (19) This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.”  Zechariah 14:8, 9, 12-19.

The nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles, God will smite with a plague. This happens before the millennium because, post-millennium, the resurrected wicked do not come up to the New Jerusalem to keep the feast; instead, Satan deceives them, and the wicked prepare for war, thinking they can take the New Jerusalem, but are destroyed in the lake of fire, forever destroyed. (See Rev. 20:10, 14, 15).

Final Appeal

There is no excuse for any Seventh-day Adventist to ignore or reject this message, because Jesus has made plain what is about to take place. To turn away from this truth is to turn away from Christ Himself, forfeiting His seal of protection in the crisis that is nearly upon us — and ultimately losing eternal life.

The choice is yours. Jesus never forces anyone; He invites. He declares: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6). Those who refuse His truth refuse His protection. Those who receive His truth receive His life.

Beloved, the time is almost here. When you see peacekeeping troops placed in Jerusalem (a Fall event), you will know the 42 months have begun—the last mile home. The 42 months are the final window to heed the warning before the sealing of the first fruits closes and God removes the tares from the denomination.

You have been faithfully warned according to Ezekiel 33:1-11. In that day, you will have to explain to God why you did not accept His invitation and gift (Luke 14:16-24).

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Matthew 24:14.
